Chopping and Changing

Hi everyone! How’s your week going?  I think my pupils must have turned into squares by now.  I’ve been looking at a computer screen all day working on my poster for the conference in Florence next month.  It’s taken me two days and a lot of hours, but I’ve almost finished it- just the final tweaking to do to make sure it’s perfect before I send it top the printers.  Such a relief to know that it’s another thing crossed off my to do list! 🙂

My week got started with a tasty yoghurt bowl filled with Rachel’s Organic yoghurt, puffed rice, dates, carob coated raisins, raspberries and blueberries and some yummy peanut butter. 

I love my yoghurt bowls and I love Rachel’s Organic yoghurts, but I think I want to go back to soy yoghurts for a while.  I stopped eating soya yoghurt sometime last summer before starting the blog and I think now would be a great time to go back to it just for a change.  I do get bored with eating the same brands all of the time.  I’m the girl that rotates where I so my shopping because I get bored of seeing the same offers, staff and layout in the supermarket.  I’ve gone from Adsa to Tesco, back to Asda and last week I was racing around the aisles in Sainsbury’s.  I love to mix it up a little yah know?!?!

I decided to mix up my workout times a little too yesterday as I wasn’t in the lab.  I decided to fit my cardio session in before lunch.  I’ve never had a lunch time workout before, but it worked wonders for my energy levels for the rest of the day.  I didn’t even feel my usual 4pm afternoon tiredness.  It was an awesome sweat session made up of a cross country workout on the cross trainer, speed work on the tread mill and a quad busting workout on the bike, plus my usual abs and core workout.

After this morning’s yoga and toning workout I had a huge bowl of refreshing melon mixed with some grapes, raspberries and a kiwi alongside some toasted quinoa and amaranth rye bread half topped with some cacao bliss and the other half cashew nut butter.

Fab! 🙂

This salad was like sunshine on a plate and was the perfect lunch today since the sun has seemed to have disappeared from our lives in the UK again.  It included mixed leaves, bulgar wheat, half a mango, blueberries, cherry tomatoes, soya beans and chopped parsley, amazing!

Rather than cooking tonight I had the leftovers of a coconut and vegetable curry that I made the other day, but this time with steamed spring greens instead of the brown rice in the pic…

This was great and it was so nice not having to cook tonight, but still be able to have something tasty and nutritious to eat.  🙂

I’ve been eating a lot of iced based desserts lately,  mainly because of the hot and sticky weather we have been having.  Last night I made an ice cold mango and banana smoothie…

…so refreshing! 

Tonight I made a huge bowl of chocolate an peanut butter protien ice cream by mixing soya milk, 1 tsp of organic cocoa powder, 1 1/2 tsps of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, 2 tsps of xanthan gum, ice cubes, 1 scoop of pea protein powder, and a huge dollop of white chocolate wonderful.  It tasted amazing, very much like a peanut butter cup but in ice cream form.  I love protein ice cream! Other than the cookies and cream version I think this has to be another of my favourite flavours. 🙂

  1. I had banana flavour ice cream once which was amazing! And chocolate brownie is awesome…never had protein ice cream though.
    Lol yes I do! I like going into a new supermarket cos they always have some new product or brand, it’s pretty awesome 😀
    That breakfast combo? Oh my. I want! Where’d you get carob coated raisins from!?

    • Banana ice cream sounds amazing! It would be fab with PB too…yum! I got the raisins from Holland and Barratt! They taste amazing. I’m going to have to get some more this weekend since they have the buy 1 get 1 1/2 price offer on. 😀

  2. Love the protein ice cream! Xanthan gum makes it so much thicker 🙂 I have Hershey syrup and keep forgetting to use it! Must try it today 🙂

  3. Oh man, if I do cardio at lunchtime I’m always so tired in the afternoon! Overall my energy levels are better, but I just want to sleep in the hours afterwards. It’s the computer screen thing I think!

  4. I love it when you go to a different supermarket than usual and discover all the new products, reminds me a little of going to supermarkets on holiday and being fascinated by foreign biscuits and yoghurt!

  5. I have no loyalty to supermarkets, especially since I worked as a manager at one of them for nearly 3 years. I like to mix it up with my brands a well.
    My favourite flavour ice cream is probably rum and raisin. I’ve never tried protein ice-cream – I would love to though!

  6. I love making protein ice cream from the chocolate peanut butter swirl Spiru-tein yum yum yum! I’m actually not a big fan of normal ice creams though…I much prefer sorbets – especially mango YUM. I had a pineapple and mango one before with coconut on the top and it was amazing. Ooh and I had an apple one in Italy and aaah it was SO good.
    As for shopping at I’m so bad. I literally go to them ALL! They all do different products that I like haha and also I go to the ones with the best prices for certain stuff too. I don’t think I could only shop at one because I like my variety!

  7. I like going to different supermarkets, mostly as they all seem to stock different things, e.g. tesco seems to be the only place that stocks hemp, kara coconut milk and vanilla rice milk. I love making protein ice cream with the spirutein powders, pb swirl is fab, especially topped with pb flour sauce 🙂

  8. I love the sound of that ice cream (love peanut butter ice cream) but do not have protein powder so it would not work. Love the sound of carob coated raisins- I will be looking out for them next time I go to H&B. And yes I love trying new brands too 🙂

  9. Changing things up always keeps things interesting! I have to do that with my workouts or I start getting so bored and unmotivated to exercise. As long as I have to stay on my toes, I’m good 😀 And the same goes for shopping in the same supermarkets… it’s boring! I love going to little random shops to see if I can find anything amazing.

    And I actually really love mint chocolate chip ice cream. I’ve tried protein ice cream, but the xanthan gum KILLS my stomach, so I can’t have it anymore.

  10. I never seem to be able to get the texture of protein ice cream right! I always end up having to add fruit and then it turns more into a thickened smoothie I suppose. Yours looks fab though. In terms of ice-cream, I’ll go with anything chocolate, unless by some miracle they have invented a carob flavoured ice-cream somewhere 😉 I wish we had So Delicious coconut milk ice cream over here: it always looks delish on US blogs. Sadly I think it would have melted a little had it been included in the Blogger food swap 😛

    Oo well-timed… FYI both Tesco AND Asda have Provamel soya yogurt on offer this week… £1 a big pot! Woop! Only plain in Asda though, Tesco do both plain and vanilla options 🙂

  12. I go to different ones all the time – I love the different own brand stuff!
    Love the look of that yoghurt bowl, which is what I’m having all the time at the moment; they’re perfect for summer, even though you’re right – was that it?!
    I think my favourite ice cream is a Kent-made honeycomb one… it’s lucky it’s so expensive, otherwise I’d eat my own weight in it 🙂

  13. The protein ice cream sounds amazing!! I love every type of ice-cream, I can’t say no!
    I always shop in different places! I love grocery shopping, and bargain hunting so I always compare and contrast in the different supermarkets around 🙂

    All those meals look sooo good!!
    Also that is so exciting about the conference in Florence! I hope you´ll enjoy it pretty much:) I am going to a conference in Villnius in October and I am already a bit scared 🙂

    I’ve never tried protein ice cream but I do *love* making banana softserve. So far I’ve only tried blending frozen bananas on their own, but I definitely need to try adding other frozen fruits or PB to make flavoured softserve… mmm 🙂

    As for grocery shopping, I literally cannot shop in the same supermarket twice in a row! I know that different places stock different things that I love (sabra hummus from Sainsburys, cheap fruit & veg from Morrisons, tofu from Waitrose, cheap tinned chickpeas/beans from Asda etc) so I always mix it up and go to a different shop each week. I also love the local fruit&veg market and try to get to that once a week too. Pretty sure I spend way too much time/money on food shopping, but I enjoy it so much!

  21. I want to try protein ice cream so much! Really need to get a new blender that can handle ice cubes…asked for one last year for Christmas but may have to re-ask Santa this year. Although probably won’t be wanting ice cream in December!
    I change my foods around a lot too, go through phases of having soya yoghurt a lot but sometimes fancy the normal kind (even though I don’t eat any other dairy!) x

  22. I am a big fan of cookies and cream, or anything with caramel when I’m eating ice cream. However, since that’s not too often, in my “ice cream”-esque smoothies, I like to match my nanner with MANGO and strawberry!! A little mango luckily goes a long way.
