WIAW: My PERFECT day

It’s that time of the week again people!  It’s time to get your party on and for some WIAW action.

This week I’m going to do a little rewind to last Tuesday where I was totally spoilt and wined and dined by the boyfriend at The Priory.   The restaurant is actually part of the The Bath Priory Hotel where at the healm is Executive Head Chef Micheal Caines who has been awarded 2 Michelin Stars.  I’ve been lucky to go to fine dining restaurants before as a treat, but nothing compares to the feast that I was about to eat.

We were first escorted to a huge table over looking the hotel gardens and looked over the lunch menu.  There were 4 menus that you could choose from and since we there for lunch that’s the menu that we stuck to, although the Master Chef menu was also really tempting.  There was a lovely selection of food for each course, but before we got a chance to select our dishes we were presented with a little appetizer, compliments of the chef.  The waiter that served us did recall in detail everything that was served to us, but all I remember is the olives and the creamy goat’s cheese spread, which tasted amazing.  The bread stick thingys, although I’m sure they have a much fancier name were really delicious too.

For my starter I ordered the Butternut Squash Agnolotti with hazelnut beurre noisette and parmesan foam.  Again the waiter reiterated the description of the dish from the menu, which I thought was a nice touch.  In fact the waiters were so attentive always asking if we were enjoying our food and if we needed anything.  It really was an amazing dining experience.  And the food…it looked so pretty that I was too scared to eat it, but it was out of this world!

Before the main we had an amuse bouche that came in a cute espresso cup-I forgot to take a pic! It contained chives, celeriac, truffle oil and was very creamy.

My main read something like this: “ Jerusalem artichoke risotto with Parmesean shavings and artichoke veloute.”  It was perfectly portioned and the risotto was super creamy and not stodgy at all.  I was in love! 🙂

We didn’t plan to have dessert, but whilst we were there we thought “what the heck?!” and went for it.  We had to wait 10 minutes for mine to cook so we decided to take a stroll around the gardens whilst the magic was happening in the kitchen.

DSCF1670The grounds were really pretty and had that English country garden appeal to them.  But, dessert was calling so we had to go back inside.  To be honest I don’t think there was any rush as the waiting staff seemed to want to tend to your ever need.  I got the feeling that we could have walked for hours before dessert and they wouldn’t have minded.

Dessert was extra special: Hot blackcurrant soufflé with yoghurt and vanilla sorbet and a blackcurrant coulis.  I also had a sneaky taste of Alfie’s too which was a dark chocolate mousse with pistachios and pistachio ice cream.  Both were just gorgeous!

This perfect meal was preceded by the most perfect bouquet of roses waiting for me at the hotel…

That food looks totally amazing. I’ve never been anywhere where the food looks that sophisticated but I’ve had some wonderful food at the Crab & Lobster at Asenby, Thirsk and also the Wensleydale Heifer in the Yorkshire Dales.

My most perfect day was my wedding day. It was wonderful, as I am sure yours will be.

  32. Tesni

    Congratulations!!! 🙂

  33. Congratulations!! Such a sweet story. What a perfect location!

  34. Oh, wow – congrats! My best restaurant experience (though it wasn’t the fanciest or longest experience, the best restaurant, or even a whole meal!) was a dessert date that I went on with a really sweet boy in high school. First of all, dessert is the way to my heart. But even though the flourless chocolate cake was delicious, getting to spend the time with such an awesome, sweet person (who I had *such* a crush on) was even better. 🙂

I wish you two a life full of happiness!

  35. EEEEE! As I was reading down-down-down your post, I began to feel in my heart “I bet this ends in engagement” & yay! Congratulations! Sounds like an absolutely perfect setting & during a brilliantly perfect day, how could it have been any better? You must be over the moon. Congratulations, again.

  36. Ahhhhhh congratulations, girl!!! God bless you both on this fun and beautiful journey, and if you need any tips let me know!! I’m just learning my way through the planning too, but IF I can help, just give me a heads up 😀
