WIAW: 9-8 and repeat

What an awesome few days in the UK it has been with the Jubilee.  I don’t think anyone does pomp and pageantry any better than us the UK, I love it!

I hope you are all fully recovered from all of your Bank Holiday partying and ready to go back to work.  I feel like I am in a completely different universe to the rest of you at the moment as I was working Friday through to Tuesday with Monday and Tuesday’s shifts being both 9-8 shifts.  So rather than being refreshed I am exhausted and rather than going back to work today I am actually have a week off!

Since it is Wednesday it can only mean one thing…

Peas and Crayons

For this weeks WIAW I would like to share the goings on of Monday, just because I was on a long shift at work and had to eat out of Tupperware all day, which was very interesting.

I woke up very early on Monday morning to fit in a 3 mile run before work.  It was not the warmest of mornings and there was some drizzly misty rain but I really enjoyed being outside.  When I got in I also did some ab exercises and core work to finish off my workout.

After getting getting ready to head out the door I quickly made a creamy banana and peanut butter smoothie with ice to drink in my car on the way to work.  I kept my eye on the time and realised that I had time for a sit down and a cup of earl grey before I left too.

I didn’t feel the need for a mid-morning snack as breakfast was slightly later than usual as it was consumed on the way to work.  For lunch I had packed a salad beast made using mixed salad leaves, red peppers, chick peas, carrots and tomatoes with an awesome sweet chilli and tahini dressing.

Sweet chilli seemed to be the reoccurring theme at lunch as I also had some Thai sweet chilli rice cakes too. IMG_2701

The afternoon was so busy so I definitely needed a snack this time round.  I had some delicious fresh fruit, melon, grapes and blueberries, yum!

I had to eat my dinner at work as it would have been too late to eat something when I got home.  Luckily Alfie had cooked a ridiculous amount of pasta for dinner on Sunday night. I’m talking man portions here, so there were plenty of left overs for my dinner.

It included wholemeal pasta, mushrooms, broccoli, green beans and spinach with green pesto and a little bit of grated cheese.  So good!

Some at work headed to McDonalds to get food for all of the others so I grabbed a sundae for dessert too. Open-mouthed smile

Even though I was at work we still all got in to the Jubilee spirit with bunting everywhere.  Yesterday I took in some of my Patriotic Lemon Sponge cake which went down a treat!

I’m actually quite pleased with my eats as I think packing food for an all day shift at work can be quite difficult, but I think I found a nice balance.  However I have ate a lot of sugary foods over the weekend too, so I think I will be giving those a rest for a little while to get my body back in balance.

Well please excuse me whilst I go and rest for a short while…

What do you like to pack for when you have a long shift at work?

Do you find it difficult to find a balance with your food when you have longer working days?

  1. Your pasta dinner sound like something I’d make, too! The lemon sponge cake looks yummy with all that fresh fruit. Happy WIAW!

  2. Oh bless you I remember the days of working long shifts like that. I still hate it when I have to work a late meeting! It looks like you did amazingly well with taking everything into work with you. I’m a Tupperware queen too! When I’m working a long day its almost always a green smoothie when I get home but I take quite a lot of snacks with me as well as my lunch to keep me going 🙂

  3. Your lunch salad looks so good!! It is harder to balance when I have long days – especially when they are unexpected and I end up leaving the office late and STARVING.

  4. I always pack masses of food and loads of tupperware whenever I work long shifts, I usually bring all my snacks and main meals, I like to be prepared ha! I used to work horrible shifts in retail like 2-10.30 and only get a half hour break in the evening so it wasn’t possible to do that then, I just had to have the one meal in the evening, which would definitely be difficult now as I prefer to have smaller meals and snack throughout the day.

I like your style of bringing food to work! I work just a regular office day but I always get laughed at for the amount of little boxes I bring in full of food. Healthy food I might add, but it does look like I eat masses – and I’m only little so it must look odd!

  6. I am so impressed with how well you manage your eating when you’re so busy. When I used to have shifts like that as a waitress (years ago) I’d just use it as an excuse to not eat (well, we weren’t given proper breaks so I had little choice) and then end up eating literally everything in the house when I got home.

Sweet chilli things seem to get everywhere! I do love the salad you had though – it looks delish.

  7. oh mannnn I want some lemon cake~one of my favorite flavors for baked goods. And it seems like you’re doing a great job with your eating! It’s all about being intentional and plan ahead! Or be flexible. 🙂

  8. Haha I look like a crazy bag lady in the morning. Work bag, gym bag, purse, sometimes camera bag and a whoooole bag for food!!

  9. i pack a chia pudding with fresh pineapple for a protein & fruit fix to get be through the 2nd half of my unusually long day. i’m used to doing 1pm to 6.30pm just not the 8am to 1pm tagged on the front before – 2 more days of over time to go 😉

  10. love pasta for dinner – yours sounds fantastic! pesto makes everything delicious!!

  11. Pheww that is a long day, glad you have a day off now, you deserve it! I always pack a lunch- usually a sandwich or soup, bring cooked chicken, and veggies as well, plenty of fruit, energy bars, and raw veggies to snack on too! Your dinner sounds great, it’s been far too long since i have had pesto

  12. I agree, no one puts on a show like we do! Your patriotic cake was like my patriotic pudding; my mum said today “What would we have done for Jubilee puddings without blueberries?!”
Poor you having to work though; I hope you get a good chilled week off 🙂

  13. I’m loving all things sweet chilli at the moment!
I make sure I always have snacks at work for if I have to stay later and get peckish although my snack drawer is currently looking a little empty and sad! x

I like to pack foods that don’t necessarily have to be refrigerated, just in case I can’t get space in the fridge!
