WIAW: Enough is enough

Hey everyone!  I hope this week is going well for you and that you enjoyed yesterday’s recipe post.  It’s been a pretty productive week for me so far with getting lots done, but I cannot wait for the weekend as I have some lovely things planned.

Peas and Crayons

Another WIAW post means that we are halfway through the week- I love celebrating that fact with a weekly dose of food porn.  For this week’s WIAW I want to share my eats and goings on from Monday.

I had an appointment to go to in the morning which meant that I could have a little bit of a lie in, which is unusual for me and quite a treat on a Monday morning.

I got dressed and ready and went with a casual ensemble:

Casual OOTD: cropped jacket, black vest top, coral vest top, floral scarf, all from H&M, flared jeans: Warehouse, ballet pumps: Topshop.

I love the light blue colour of the jeans and the coral and beiges together.  This shade of denim practically suits any colour way.

For a speedy breakfast I made a green smoothie using kale, a banana, peaches, grape juice and almond milk.  I also had a Bobo’s Oat Bar in cranberry and orange which Sarah sent me in her package.  Breakfast like this are great for when you are in a rush to get out the door.  The cranberry and orange flavour of the bar reminded me of my hot cross buns.

My breakfast kept me full for ages so I completely scrapped my usual mid-morning snack. I didn’t feel hungry again until past lunch time around 1.30 pm.

For lunch I made a lovely salad using mixed lettuce leaves, avocado, beetroot, tomatoes and peppers.  I made a dressing using some plain shop bought hummus that I thinned down with water and the stirred in some red pesto.  Easy, peasy, delicious!

In the afternoon I snacked on some yummy dates and 2 rice cakes. One rice cake was topped with almond butter and the other peanut butter.  It’s been so long since I had nut butter topped rice cakes, so much so that I went back for one more! Oh, so so good!

Later I the afternoon I headed over to the gym to try my very first yoga class.  To be honest I didn’t find this class very challenging at all.  We did some breathing exercises, a bit of stretching, the plough, sun salutations and the standing triangle and the relaxation phase.

I know that yoga isn’t just about the stretching and the more intense poses, but from a class I was hoping to be challenged and work on my poses more.  I’m not sure I will be going back to this particular class again next week, but it was nice to try it.  Like with most things, it’s probably just trial and error until you find a class that suits.

When I got home I made a quick and easy dinner of steamed kale and broccoli with a baked sweet potato, kidney beans and black eyed beans topped with my Honey, Mustard and Lime dressing.  This meal totally represents the kind of food that I am loving right now- stripped back and simple with oodles of fresh produce.

In the evening I was feeling snacky so I made a snack plate of chopped strawberries, cherries and some Lindt salted caramel dark chocolate.

Nor a bad day of eats me thinks- lots of roobios, green tea and water was consumed too!

Everything looks so small in the photos and looking back at some of my older WIAW posts and again the serving sizes look quite small.  I think photos can be very deceptive as I always make sure that my plate/bowl is piled high.  I know I keep saying it, but I am in a really great place where my eating is concerned at the moment.  I am not overeating and only eat when I need to, which was shown in this post by not eating my mid-morning snack as I knew that I didn’t need it.  I’ve seem to have got the hang of knowing when enough is enough for my body and I’m so happy that I’m finally coming to terms with what my body needs!

Are you good at knowing when enough is enough?

Do you think you are currently in tune with your body?

That breakfast bar sounds delicious 🙂

  2. I definitely can connect with you on wanting to eat “stripped back and simple” foods…I love to eat salads or stir frys just loaded with tons of fresh produce and not drenched in yucky creamy store bought dressings/sauces! It’s good to hear you are in a good place with food right now…we should all strive to get there, although there are many of us, me included, that struggles with this daily! It’s inspiring to hear you talk about the great place you are in!

  3. I can’t trust my hunger signals at all,but it’s great that you’re able to eat that inituitively,Jemma! Way to go! 🙂
I always love how fresh & delicious your eats are. You always make me crave fruit, haha! 😀

  4. Almond and Peanut Butter..it’s so hard to decide between the two! Glad to see you’re a Lindt lover like myself! 🙂

  5. It has taken me a while to learn how to eat in a way that is best for my body. People can be so judgemental of how other people eat, but everyone is different. It’s great that you have found what works for you.

  6. That is just so great to hear that you are truly in a better place with eating, great job Jemma! This is of course something I am working on 🙂

  7. That dinner does look gorgeous, I am so with you on that kind of food hitting the spot at the moment, I think we are foodie twins 😉

  8. I get so stuck in routines that I often forget that I’m not hungry and I’m just eating because ‘this is what I normally do at this time’, you know? I’ve been trying to work on it but when you’ve been doing it for so long it’s difficult to shake. I admire your progress 🙂

  9. I love all the color in your meals! and the dressing for your salad – great idea.

Its quite difficult to find a yoga class that you like and challenges you at the same time! It took me a while to find “my” classes when living in London! At the moment i teach more than ever so i dont even have time to visit many classes unfortunately. your salads look delicious, I often use thinned out hummus as a dressing too! like u said, easy peasy AND delicious!

  11. I definitely have times when I eat just to eat….because I love food! My stomach doesn’t have enough room for all the food I would like to consume in a day! Cute cute outfit! H&M is such a bargain, and they have great clothes!

I love breakfasts like that- fast, easy, healthy, and delicious! I will have to try out those Oat Bars…I keep seeing them everywhere:) Cut outfit, too!

I think I wax and wane with the enough is enough thing – certain occasions I definitely over or under eat, but I think they balance out.

  14. I don’t always know when enough is enough, but it’s also because sometimes I need to overeat (if that makes sense). Like when I’ve been busy an haven’t eaten often enough because of it. Your snacks look good!

  15. Your salads look so colourful! I’ll definitely be recreating your evening snack soon!

I could use a little work figuring out when enough is enough but I’m getting better at it 🙂

  17. Your dinner looks so yummy! I’m craving a sweet potato right now. 🙂

That hummus dressing you make looks super good! Reminds me of thousand island dressing.

  19. I’ve never really thought your portions are too small, to me you look like you’re really good at eating intuitively! It’s something that I struggled with for a long time when I was younger and had many issues with my relationship with food but I now feel like I’m a lot better at it 🙂

  20. Nicole Marie Story

“Easy, peasy, delicious!” – so very cute!
Laura mentioned being foodie twins… I wonder who is mine! Gwendolyn? 🙂

  21. I definitely need to be more like this; at the moment, if I’ve decided to eat something, like taking a snack to work, I’ll eat it whatever!
On the yoga front, I wasn’t too impressed with it either but loved Body Balance; it has all the good bits of yoga but is much more challenging – have you tried it?

  22. That’s great that you are learning to listen to your body’s cues. I am having a hard time now, wanting to eat all of the time. I read that most of it is likely because I am on the verge of weaning my 11 mo. old son and he isn’t nursing as much as he used to. My body is used to more oxytocin to make me feel good and since I’m not getting as much, I want to eat more to feel good.

  23. Your dinner is pretty. Don’t give up on yoga. You just need to find the right class. 🙂
