I *HEART* JULY

What happened to July?  The month just zoomed by,and what a great month it was!

It was so nice spending a bit of girly time with my mum.  We found her a really lovely dress to wear to the wedding which she looks fab in!  I also managed to pick up some treats for myself and Alfie, so it wasn’t a bad shopping trip all round!

We also sorted out our wedding gift list at the beginning of the month, so exciting!

Spending lots of quality time with my hubby to be was definitely a highlight of last month. We enjoyed the sunshine in Stratford-upon-Avon and also had the most delicious meal at our wedding reception venue. Since we both lead such busy lives it was really nice to spend some special tome together.

Last month also saw my first AXA PPP healthcare guest post series go live.  The series concentrates on finding the motivation to exercise, which on some days I can relate to oh too well.

The strawberries that my Nan gave me a few months ago seemed to have a growth spurt as they are producing juicy and delicious fruits in abundance last month.  My tomato plants are also doing so much better. It really is satisfying being able to go into your garden and pick your own.

Over the past few months I have come to many realisations about my perspectives on my eating and fitness which I documented in a post.  I am definitely more relaxed where these things are concerned now and really content on just concentrating on being happy and healthy.

Since my body pump classes have been postponed over the summer vacation I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try a new class.  I’ve been trying to try a yoga class for ages so decided to pop along to a body balance class.  Holy moly, this class is amazing! I am so in love with it and it has motivated me to up my yoga practice big time over the past few weeks.

My aims for August include:

  • Post my wedding invitations
  • Become a crafting DIY wedding Queen
  • Submit my thesis…eek!
  • Book my hen doo
  • Continue being happy and healthy
  • Redesign my blog
  • Enjoy life!

Most of these aims are wedding related but with only 3 months to the day (wowzers!) it is pretty much wedding HQ at my house at the moment.  Obviously, another major thing is handing in my thesis…so much going on but it is all so exciting!

August looks like it is going to be one amazing month and it’s already getting off to a great start, one for a reason which I don’t want to announce right now as a might jinx it and because my wedding invites are being delivered today!

I *HEART* June

A big yayyy for June!  It has been such a brilliant month for me. I can’t believe how quickly it went by though.  It means that I am one month closer to being a married woman, eek!

The weather has been completely crazy this month! Take yesterday for example it was like monsoon weather in the morning, ridiculously heavy rain and thunder and lightening, but then it turned into  a beautiful summers day in the afternoon.  Oh the charm of the British weather!

Of course the best thing about this month was picking up my new toy.

I’m still trying to get used to all of the different buttons and gizmos on this thing.  I may have to read the instruction manual, which is something that I never, ever do!

Earlier in the month I got to meet up with one of my bridesmaids and we had a lovely day of shopping and lunch.

It was great celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee with my Patriotic Lemon Sponge, so delicious!

Fitness update and where I am now…

This month I have really been thinking about what I want from my workouts and what I want to achieve.  Over the past 6 months my total mindset about my workouts have changed-before I was a cardio freak and working out for my than an hour at a time.  However, since starting my job along with my PhD it has given me less time to work out.  This was hard for me to get my head around initially.  The usual fears about weight gain kept creeping into my mind.  I even reduced my meal portions at one point to prevent weight gain, which I know wasn’t the right way to go about things.

Starting my job although making my life hectic is quite a blessing not only because of the extra money and helping with the wedding budget but it has made me totally reassess my workouts and the effect of working out so hard must have had on my body.  My body must have been under so much stress as I was a bit of a cardio head.  But, not anymore I have a great varied workout schedule full of strength training, yoga and stretches and cardio. 

Not only has the content of my workout week also changed the length of my workouts have also altered.  Nowadays I only workout between 45-1 hour a day maximum, which is a lot less than before.  Although my workouts are shorter I still make them count.  I’ve come to realise that it is all about the quality of the workout rather than the quantity.  There have been times where I have worked out for longer and not felt that great afterwards because I didn’t put my all into it.  Now my workouts are shorter they are not so drawn out and I seem to concentrate more especially during weight training.

My current inspiration!

I know I have said it before but I have never felt better about myself, my body and life in general than I do now.  A lot of it has got to do with ignoring my hang ups and just getting on with things.  Being happy and healthy is definitely one of my new life goals!

So my goals for July include:

  • read more books- I was really getting into the groove with my reading but have let it slide again.
  • have a massive wardrobe clear out
  • enjoy running my Race for Life
  • Have fun at this weekends Godiva Festival
  • review my strength training workouts and work on my running mileage
  • try out a yoga class
  • finish the corrections to my thesis
  • create some inspiration boards for how I want my wedding to look

I *HEART* MAY

Hello lovelies! I hope you are enjoying the weekend so far!

I have good feelings about June already!

Last month was such a fantastic month for me mainly because I got to spend more time with my husband to be and we got major serious with the wedding planning.  So as months go May was pretty darn good!

Last week I recorded my first vlog and really enjoyed doing so.  Thank you for your awesome comments.  I’m so glad that so any of you liked it!

Exploring my other passions of fashion and beauty on the blog more this month was so much fun.

I have been paying particular attention to my makeup and what I wear more this month, basically making a bit more of an effort and I feel great!

Although I am not an expert in these fields it has been awesome being able to express my creativity in a different way other than food.  You can read or watch my review CoverGirl Lashblast mascara here and read about my thoughts on wedding makeup here, just incase you missed them.

This month has been a crazy month for smoothies as I just cannot seem to get enough:

I am currently reading The Distant Hours by Kate Morton and really loving it so far. Right now I don’t have that much time to read and not reading as much as I would like to but I’m in no rush to finish the book. I’m just enjoying taking some time out of my day and being able to settle down and read my book and relaxing more.

This has been an awesome month for our wedding planning as we have accomplished so much.  We have designed and ordered our wedding cake, bought our wedding rings, sorted out our order of service, got the bridesmaids shoes and dresses, had a meeting with the vicar, selected my wedding perfume and of course I got my Choos!

The sunshine has been amazing these past few weeks and I for one have been making the most of it by working outside and eating some amazing summer inspired foods.

I also ran my furthest distance this year of 5 miles. I am really looking forward to working on my running distances again this summer, simply loving running right now.

There were some aims that I didn’t achieve last month such as signing up for Race for Life and seriously updating my recipe page.

I am really looking forward to the Jubilee in a few days.  It’s so awesome how the whole nation has seemed to embraced the impending celebrations.  Although I will be working on the actual day I will still be celebrating and enjoying it all.  And this is the attitude that I generally want to take into next month too…

  • plan and get ideas for my hen doo
  • get my wedding invitations printed
  • enjoy a fab girly day with my girlies
  • sign up for Race for Life!
  • work on my running distance
  • find some inspiration for my wedding hair and makeup
  • get back into the thesis groove and get the darn thing finished for good!
  • be stricter with my saving
  • find a new home!!! 😀

So many exciting things are ahead my friends and I cannot wait!

I *HEART* April

Well, considering that this is probably the wettest April that I can remember it hasn’t been a bad month.  I love doing these recap posts of  the months as they go by as even though the month may not have been particularly exciting it is nice too look back and to see that there was some highlights after all.

April for me has mainly been all about work…

I was so happy when I hit the send button to an email to my supervisor with the final chapter of my thesis attached.  I still have a lot of editing to do but it is great to know that a huge feat has been accomplished and the end is somewhat near.

It hasn’t all been about my thesis though as I have also been working on revamping my blog with a new layout and a header.

I also wrote a guest post over at amadoloves.co.uk about How to Keep Healthy for the Big Day with the underlying message that your husband to be loves the girl that he met however many years ago and will still love you forever more more regardless of your size.  I hope that came across well in the post.  Open-mouthed smile

This month has been a huge focus on spending time with my loved ones with an incredible Easter lunch with my family and Alfie’s and also the naming ceremony of my baby nephew.

I finally finished designing our invitation suite so now it just needs printing off and the finishing touches can be made.

I even managed to treat myself with a trip to the hair dressers and a mini shopping spree as a reward of finishing the first draft of my thesis too.

And I have been a little baking mad this month too!

This month in particular I have made a vast improvement with my eating and my view on eating larger quantities. This was definitely evident this weekend where lots of chocolate and carbs and high calorific foods were consumed and it definitely wasn’t a phase of over eating for the sake of it, my body just wanted to eat those kinds of food.  Usually this would have freaked me out but I have come to realise that being more chilled out about my eating.  Being an advocate of balance and eat what you want but in moderation I think  a little bit of what you fancy does you no harm at all.

This month I would like to:

  • sort out my poor neglected front garden

  • continue to save and budget

  • enjoy running outside and increase my mileage

  • finalise the wedding cake design and source props and craft items for some of the DIY items for the wedding

  • sign up to a 10K race- I figured that I have way too much on right now to train for a half marathon

  • meet with my supervisor to discuss the revisions for the first draft of my thesis

  • sort out the recipe page on the blog

  • sort out my make up bag and make up ideas for the wedding

I am no expert on beauty and have no real idea of how to apply make up, but I do love playing with cosmetics.  I’m more of a slap it on and see what happens kind of girl Smile but I really want to make more of an effort in this area.  More so now as I am considering doing my own make up for my wedding…eek!

New make up brushes and make up are definitely on the cards for me this month and may be more work on  my wardrobe too since I have gotten rid of so many clothes. 

Make up and fashion, sounds like May is going to be a great month already!

I *HEART* March

Well the end of another month is here and it’s time to say hello April.  I really cannot believe how fast this year is going by.  It will be Christmas before we know it and I would be already married by then (eeek!).

I have been writing these reflective “I Heart…” posts for a year and even now the purpose of why I started these posts originally still holds true: a way of collecting together my achievements and a way of looking at how I can progress in the future.

As months go March has been pretty darn awesome, especially the latter half of the month…

I had a lovely week off from work in the sunshine.

After reading The Hunger Games trilogy I just had to go and watch the film which I thought was awesome!

I took part of the Green Smoothie Challenge and made some awesome breakfast smoothies to start my day off in the right way.  The round up of my own Seven Smoothies in Seven Day Challenge is coming your way tomorrow complete with recipes.

I got closer to 30 last Sunday and celebrated my 26th birthday with my girlies and ate the best cupcake.

It was also my 7 year anniversary with Alfie and we went out for a fab meal.

We also made more headway with our wedding planning and booked a band, a table dresser and two beautiful vintage cars.  Although the most exciting part for me this month as far as wedding planning goes was ordering and paying for my wedding dress yesterday.  I adore my dress and cannot wait for it to be made and come into the shop to be fitted.  I still can’t believe that I actually have my dress!

Yesterday also marked the start of prop buying for the wedding.  I found a great retro/vintage store and a shop specialising in vintage products that stocks loads of stuff.  I wanted to buy it all but for now settled on a vintage looking frame that I bagged for £5.

Looking at last months goals I achieved them all including finishing the discussion of my thesis and having a big wardrobe clean out and bagging things for the bin, eBay or the charity shop. I always feel better after a good clear out.

This month I would like too:

  • make the most of the outdoors by going for walks, longer runs and pottering in my garden
  • continue to save and budget
  • enjoy my Easter lunch
  • finalise the wedding cake design and design for the invites
  • sign up to a 10K race and consider a half marathon if I have the time to dedicate to it
  • finish the first draft of my thesis
  • create a new blog header
