…or should that be wedding invite madness?!

We have been extremely busy and getting crafty in order to get our wedding invitations posted out tomorrow.  Ribbon, adhesive stickers, printing envelopes, ticking people off our guest list pretty much sums up our weekend.

Despite all of the hard work that was involved we are very pleased with the end results.  We are totally in love with our invitations and they are definitely the epitome of vintage glamour. We ordered them from Strawberry Sorbet and not only do they make beautiful letterpress invitations but their customer service is impeccable too.

Of course there was lots of delicious food consumed whilst sealing lots of envelopes, and by the way why does the gum paste on envelopes taste so gross, yuck!

IMG_3492

Tomato, spinach, onion and cheese omelet with a toasted wholemeal bagel with vegan spread.

IMG_3473

Rice cakes topped with Justin’s peanut butter with honey.

IMG_3467

Super refreshing honey dew melon slices and green tea for a light breakfast.

IMG_3469

Salad beast of romaine lettuce, rocket, tomatoes, butternut squash, cucumber, celery and a green pesto dressing.

IMG_3482

Using my boyfriend’s words, today’s breakfast was an epic kind of beautiful!  A vanilla and cinnamon wholemeal pancake topped with super sweet strawberries, blueberries and a raw chocolate sauce.

IMG_3475

Steamed broccoli with ordered in aromatic tofu and tao woo tord tofu (I don’t know what it means but it tasted darn good!)

IMG_3472

Barabara’s Bakery vanilla snack animals.

Surprisingly I haven’t had a smoothies this weekend, shock horror!  I think it was down to being lazy and not wanting to clean out the blender.  After all of the work that the invitations have involved I did everything that I could to keep the washing up as minimal as possible.

I just had some of the leftover tofu for dinner with more steamed veggies, yum!  Now I think I can hear my Raw Chocolate and Salted Caramel Hearts calling me from  the freezer.

What have you been up to this weekend? Are you into arts and crafts? Do you like to do a lot of DIY craft projects?

WIAW: First Date

Pinch and a punch for the first day of the month- I hope August has started out on a high for you all!

Well what a shocker the UK sunshine has disappeared to be replaced with rain and grey clouds again, geez should have known that it wouldn’t last.  The changing weather has left me with a bit of a cold so I have been nursing that for the past few days, but I haven’t let it get me down though and have ben trying to carry on as normal.

Peas and Crayons

This week for WIAW I want to share my goings on from Monday because I was treated to a lovely meal and it was  just so good that I had to share.

I kick started my day with a lovely bowl of fresh peaches and strawberries with some peanut butter Cheerios which was a nice treat as I have been trying to use them sparingly like I mentioned in my latest vlog.  I poured over some unsweetened almond milk and had an ice cold glass of water too.

IMG_3439

I love adding fresh fruit to cereal, it definitely makes it more satisfying and another way to get in more fruit into my day.

Later that morning we popped out to Hobby Craft and TK Maxx to buy some wedding craft supplies and props to dress the reception venue.  I’m really happy with what we picked up, all that is needed now is for us to get our wedding DIY heads on.

IMG_3441

Shopping OOTD: beige cardigan: Zara, blue vest: Forever 21, skinny jeans: Forever 21, scarf: Forever 21, pink rose bud earrings: Forever 21, moccasins: Forever21.

This outfit was a total Forever 21 love fest- such a great shop!

All of that shopping worked up my appetite so I picked up a lovely blueberry smoothie from Boots.

IMG_3440

These things are so handy when you are on the go!

IMG_3449

When we got home it was time for lunch so I made a lovely salad of mixed leaves, courgettes, smoked salmon, half a baked sweet potato and some chunk hummus, so good!

IMG_3451

Afternoon snackage was a chopped pink lady apple and 3 pitted dates to tide me over.  I definitely need this extra fuel to get me through Jillian Micheal’s Yoga Meltdown Level 1 workout- it’s such a fab yoga routine!

Later on in the evening it was time to get ready for our date night.  We headed to our reception venue for dinner.

IMG_3453

a cheeky snap of the restaurant

IMG_3455

To start I had the salmon gravlax with Bellini’s.

IMG_3456

My main was the sea bass fillet with roasted fennel and crab meat balls (sorry the actually name on the menu for this dish had so much more finesse than I could ever muster!)

IMG_3457

An dessert was just amazing!  I delved into a delicious slice of chocolate heaven, a chocolate tart with cookie dough ice cream.

I think it is easy to see that it was  a pretty amazing meal.  I’m so excited to see what they come up with for our wedding breakfast.  This got me thinking about mine and Alfie’s first date.

Our first date was seven years ago and we headed to Nando’s after work and went to watch a movie.  Funnily enough Hitch was playing at the time so we watched that, very cliché I know, but it was such a great first date.   Since last nights date night was in pour wedding reception venue it was amazing to realise how far that we have come as a couple.

What did you do for your first date with your partner?

Have you ever had a bad first date?

What is the most delicious thing that you have had to eat today?

Vlog: E.L.F Cosmetics Review

Happy Monday!  I hope the start of a new week is treating you all well.

I’ve got a vlog for you today featuring E.L.F cosmetics who kindly sent me a selection of their range to review.  Enjoy! Smile

Just to recap, I was sent:

E.L.F High Definition Powder in clear, £6.00

E.L.F Eyeshadow Duo in Butter Pecan, £1.50

E.L.F All Over Colour Stick in Pink Lemonade, £1.50

E.L.F Eyelid Primer in Sheer, £1.50

E.L.F Studio Powder Brush, £3.75

E.L.F Professional Bronzing and Blending Brush, £1.50

For the cost of these items I was very impressed with the quality of the products.  My only issue being with the Professional Bronzing and Blending Brush with it’s coarse brush and I thought that it was too small as a bronzing brush, but that’s just me.

For a bride on  a budget I think there are definitely products checking out here for that big day!

I hope you enjoyed this vlog, leave me some comments below if you have any ideas on what other vlogs you would like to see on Celery and Cupcakes.  Also, remember to subscribe to my YouTube channel!

What do you think of E.L.F cosmetics?

Have you tried any of the products that I reviewed?

What did you make of the makeup brushes?

Just call me Gok Wan!

Hey folks!  I hope you have all been enjoying the weekend and all of the beautiful sunshine that we have been having in the UK, maybe summer is here at last?

Thank you for all of your wonderful comments on my last post– I will get round to replying to them all soon, promise! You guys are so supportive and amazing and I adore you all!  Becoming more relaxed with my eating and exercise is something that has progressed over the last 6 months, but I just wanted to put my thoughts on this all in one post.  Like some of you said the current revolution in the blogging community seems to be slowing things down and generally being more kinder to ourselves and I think it is great that I’m not alone in this endeavor.

I really enjoyed my workouts this week, they went a little bit like this:

Monday: Yoga Class

Tuesday: a variation of strength workout A and 20 minutes of HIITS on the bike and cross trainer

Wednesday: REST

Thursday: Body Balance

Friday: 30 minutes of gentle cardio on the treadmill, cross trainer and step machine followed by 3 x 12 reps of chest press ups, lunges, squats, tricep dips and the plank.

Saturday: REST

Sunday: 3 mile run and yoga stretches

This week I decided to just do whatever I felt like where my workouts were concerned and found it so much fun.  This morning I was supposed to go to the gym, but it was so beautiful outside I just couldn’t waste the sunshine so I went on a short 3 mile run.  I had a great playlist on my iPhone which made the run really enjoyable.

On Saturday I had a bit of a girly shopping day in Birmingham with my mum with a mission of finding her Mother of the Bride outfit.  I made the most of the sun with my outfit and decided to put on my favourite maxi dress and gladiator sandals.

IMG_3296

OOTD: stripy maxi dress: Bank, grey basic t-shirt: H&M, gladiator sandals: Office, necklace: French Connection, orange cuff: Forever 21, bracelet: Topshop.

I just loved the navy stripes and the orange accessories together!

After trying on about a zillion dresses, jackets and fascinator combos my mum finally settled on a dress that she felt comfortable in.  We grabbed a whole heap of dresses of different shapes, colours and cuts and the one that my mum picked really compliments her figure and complexion.  She looks fabulous in it and after starting out not feeling confident she would find anything she would find anything, she really happy with the dress I helped her find.  Well, what can I say, just call me of Gok Wan!

I also picked up some treats for myself and something for Alfie too:

IMG_3300

Basic vest tops (£2.50 each!), skinny jeans (£8.75),  moccasins, scarf, pink jewelled bow necklace, selection of earrings, scarf: Forever 21, body cream from Jo Malone, Chanel lipstick, Tom Ford perfume for men.

Forever 21 is one of my favourite shops and it is always good for a bargain.  Obviously the more expensive items are for my wedding day.  Alfie and I really love our fragrances and wanted something different for our wedding day.  So, I went to Jo Malone and already have bought the perfume but wanted a body cream to wear underneath it to make the perfume smell even more unique.  Alfie fell in love with a pure perfume Tom Ford fragrance and it smells extremely spicy and sexy!

This weekend food has been particularly fantastic!

IMG_3305

A wholemeal bagel stuffed with plain hummus, Tesco’s vegan cheese and cucumber!  One of the best bagel combos ever!

IMG_3271

All of this sun has made my strawberries change colour so quickly.  I pick some one day and there are more red ones the next day- I can’t keep up!  They have been the focus of many meals:

IMG_3291

Stove cooked oats using almond milk, water, Tesco’s soya yoghurt, nectarines, raspberries, blackberries and my strawberries.

IMG_3275

Strawberries, blackberries, soya yoghurt, dark chocolate dreams and salted pretzels.

IMG_3304

Fresh pineapple, strawberries, blackberries, soya yoghurt and a Cherry and Oat Breakfast Muffin.

I’ve also been loving my green smoothies with a passion:

IMG_3280

Kale, a banana, vanilla stevia, ice and almond milk!

My favourite meal to whip up right now are Buddha bowls, I just cannot seem to get enough of them.  They are so tasty and so quick to make, what’s not to love?

IMG_3303

Steamed broccoli and edamame beans with left over Curried Quinoa with Cashews and Sultanas with some plantain.

IMG_3272

Steamed broccoli and kale, black eyed beans, baked sweet potato, yum!

Steamed broccoli and baked sweet potatoes seem to be an obsession of mine right now, I love them!  Sweet potatoes are great loaded with nut butters, with this in mind I made a mouthwatering evening snack on Friday night.

IMG_3287

A baked sweet potato stuffed with peanut butter and raw chocolate covered raisins, oh yes!

I really have had a fantastic weekend of shopping, eats and spending time with Alfie- it was so nice to treat him to that perfume.  Today I went out for my run, did the food shop, enjoyed the sunshine in my garden, reading my book and making the most of my Goodnessdirect delivery that arrived on Friday:

IMG_3336[1]

I made these oh so amazing Raw Chocolate and Salted Caramel Hearts earlier today and of course I had to test on for quality purposes.  No words can describe how good these babes are!

Such a fab weekend!  I hope you enjoy the rest of yours!

Have you ever had to play stylist Gok Wan style to anybody?  I found it quite fun once we had found the right dress.

What have you been up to this weekend?

I *HEART* June

A big yayyy for June!  It has been such a brilliant month for me. I can’t believe how quickly it went by though.  It means that I am one month closer to being a married woman, eek!

The weather has been completely crazy this month! Take yesterday for example it was like monsoon weather in the morning, ridiculously heavy rain and thunder and lightening, but then it turned into  a beautiful summers day in the afternoon.  Oh the charm of the British weather!

IMG_2924

At least there has been some sunshine to enjoy at least!

I got to write my second guest post for amadoloves

image

…it was all about how to get great glowing skin from the food that you eat.

I was also honoured to be mentioned on the Cosmo website as part of their food bloggers hot topics post.

Still so chuffed about this!

Of course the best thing about this month was picking up my new toy.

I’m still trying to get used to all of the different buttons and gizmos on this thing.  I may have to read the instruction manual, which is something that I never, ever do!

IMG_2749[1]

Earlier in the month I got to meet up with one of my bridesmaids and we had a lovely day of shopping and lunch.

IMG_2680

It was great celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee with my Patriotic Lemon Sponge, so delicious!

This month has been full of some amazing food too…

IMG_3011[1]

I also posted my Vegan Chocolate and Peanut Butter Brownie and Cherry Bakewell Oat Slices recipe.  A vlog about My Skincare Routine also went on the blog this month- check them all out if you haven’t already!

Fitness update and where I am now…

This month I have really been thinking about what I want from my workouts and what I want to achieve.  Over the past 6 months my total mindset about my workouts have changed-before I was a cardio freak and working out for my than an hour at a time.  However, since starting my job along with my PhD it has given me less time to work out.  This was hard for me to get my head around initially.  The usual fears about weight gain kept creeping into my mind.  I even reduced my meal portions at one point to prevent weight gain, which I know wasn’t the right way to go about things.

inspiration

Starting my job although making my life hectic is quite a blessing not only because of the extra money and helping with the wedding budget but it has made me totally reassess my workouts and the effect of working out so hard must have had on my body.  My body must have been under so much stress as I was a bit of a cardio head.  But, not anymore I have a great varied workout schedule full of strength training, yoga and stretches and cardio.

Not only has the content of my workout week also changed the length of my workouts have also altered.  Nowadays I only workout between 45-1 hour a day maximum, which is a lot less than before.  Although my workouts are shorter I still make them count.  I’ve come to realise that it is all about the quality of the workout rather than the quantity.  There have been times where I have worked out for longer and not felt that great afterwards because I didn’t put my all into it.  Now my workouts are shorter they are not so drawn out and I seem to concentrate more especially during weight training.

           curvyCurvy.

So fit and curvy. #Inspiration. #Fitness #Workout #Weight_loss

My current inspiration!

I know I have said it before but I have never felt better about myself, my body and life in general than I do now.  A lot of it has got to do with ignoring my hang ups and just getting on with things.  Being happy and healthy is definitely one of my new life goals!

So my goals for July include:

  • read more books- I was really getting into the groove with my reading but have let it slide again.
  • have a massive wardrobe clear out
  • enjoy running my Race for Life
  • Have fun at this weekends Godiva Festival
  • review my strength training workouts and work on my running mileage
  • try out a yoga class
  • finish the corrections to my thesis
  • create some inspiration boards for how I want my wedding to look

How has June treated you?  What made the month special for you?

Are you happy with your current workout routine? Do you ever think about what you would like to achieve from your workouts?
